Repeat Block Printing
Explore printing on fabric and paper from small blocks to create repeat patterns. You will also make ink rubbings with rollers over textured surfaces to create printed papers and fabric samples.
You will make your own blocks from rubber or lino and use them to print hangings, sample squares, hankies or scarves. You will also be able to print on paper and card. The design focus will be on repeat pattern. You will also create prints using ink and rollers from textured surfaces.

In this workshop participants will learn how to coat materials for exposure, how the process works, and a variety of different processes within the main process, including the toning of images.
Intro to Photo Screenprinting
An introduction to screen printing onto paper using photo emulsion, led by printmaker and designer Laura Knight.
You will learn the foundational skills to produce your own photo stencil screen print from start to finish, from the initial coating and exposure of screens, through to the exciting reveal of your first print!
This course is suitable for beginners who would like to try out this process, or for those with experience looking to refresh their skills or branch out into a new form of printmaking. It is also perfect for printmakers who would like to become a member of Carousel Print Studio and use the screen printing facilities during open access sessions.
You will be taken step by step through coating a screen, exposing an image with the exposure unit, developing it in the washout room and then registering and printing the image onto paper, creating your own prints to take home.

About the Tutor
Laura Knight is a printmaker and designer based on the edge of the peak district in Sheffield. Her work focuses on the structural simplicity, geometry and strong shadows created by Brutalist, postmodern and modern architecture.
After obtaining a degree in Textile Design, specialising in print, Laura worked in London for two years for a small interior textiles company. She became a freelance designer for various interiors and fashion retailers and suppliers. Laura began developing her own products and artwork in 2013. Her work has since been sold in the Barbican, The Southbank Centre, The Conran Store, The Hepworth Wakfield, and Nottingham Contemporary, among many others.
Laura will guide in learning more about this expressive screen printing process.
What do I need to bring?
If you would like to print your own image or design in this session, please email an A4 black-and-white image of your choice one week in advance of the event. High contrast images work best for this process. Please respect copyright.
If you do not have an image, one will be provided for you. All other materials and equipment will be provided.
Refreshments are provided. You may wish to bring packed lunch and water bottle.

Sticky Tape Collagraph
In this workshop we will be creating a printing plate by layering different types of sticky tape to the surface of mountcard. We will be using all types of tape, including sellotape, masking tape, parcel tape, framing tape, duck tape etc, these will be layered, scratched into, ripped, scrunched to build up a design.
This will be inked using both relief (surface) rolling and intaglio techniques. This is an exciting quick method of creating prints with contrasting textures. Discover and gain an understanding of the process while having fun and learning from each other.
Kitchen Lithography
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the innovative technique of kitchen lithography to create a small edition of prints. Participants will learn the fundamentals of alternative lithography as they draw directly onto aluminum foil, etch their image with cola, and print their creations by hand.

Letterpress printmaking
The workshop will enable participants to typeset and print, using the Adana press and to make concertina books.
