We recently worked with The Snowdrop Project, a Sheffield based charity who support survivors of modern slavery and exploitation. The project, to provide clients with expressive and creative printmaking sessions was funded by an Arts Council England project grant.
Snowdrop clients explored a wide range of printmaking techniques, building in complexity over 16 weeks, guided by Carousel workshop leaders. The project culminated in a vibrant exhibition of printmaking in December 2025 at Yorkshire Artspace, Exchange Place Studios Gallery space.
Some client comments:
H - ‘The kind of stress people have on their shoulders - this can be helped by doing art and learning new things.
K - ‘ In my head I was stuck, when I’m here and printing and talking I am happy.’
A - ‘I love sending photos of the artwork I’ve made to my family, they love the colours.’
Becky Walstow James, Snowdrop Project Community Development Manager - ‘Participants have enjoyed being introduced to new people, sharing culture and languages. Conversations are translated through the group in shared languages e.g. Urdu, Arabic and English.
We’ve noticed increased confidence in making the work and developed fine motor skills. Some clients have gone from really tentative to confident in their making.
‘Playing with colours, printing is fun - & laughing & talking!‘
