First Steps in Linocut Printmaking

Learn to carve an A5 linocut from a drawing, design or photograph, and print an edition of original prints.

Using the professional quality equipment and materials at Carousel Print Studio, you will learn how to print by hand and use a press, and create a carved block design for you to print again and again. You will leave with your own original artworks ready to frame.

This course is suitable for beginners. £55 / £42.50 Members.

About the Tutor

This course is led by Sheffield artist and printmaker Helen Darlington.

A graduate of Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University, Helen has worked for several visual art institutions in the arta including Cupola Gallery, The Art House Wakefield, and Site Gallery.

For the last ten years, Helen has traded as Robin’s Room, making and selling fine linen home wares hand printed with her own intricate linocut designs.

What will I need to bring?

All materials and equipment will be provided.

Please bring an idea for a simple image or design to draw from or trace. Your design should fit within an A5 rectangle, and high contrast images work best. If you are copying a design please check the copyright.

Please wear old clothes as printing can get messy. Aprons will be provided.

You may wish to bring a packed lunch. Teas, coffee and biscuits are provided.

This is a relaxed and fun course suitable for beginners. Drawing skills are not necessary to enjoy this workshop.
