Carborundum Printmaking

  • Carousel Print Studio Exchange Place Studio Sheffield S2 5TR United Kingdom (map)

Learn this versatile tonal printmaking technique.

Carborundum is a grit which can either be mixed with glue and painted onto the surface of the printmaking plate, or sprinkled directly onto the glued surface.

The carborundum creates a texture on the plate which holds the ink that can be printed from. The process can create strong contrasts as well as subtle textures.
